Srinagar, Mar 05 (KNO): An endangered female musk deer was rescued after it got entangled in a barbed wire fence along the Line of Control (LoC) in Gurez sector in North Kashmir’s Bandipora district. An official told the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that the animal was spotted by residents in the Shitalbagh area near a Border Roads Organisation (BRO) camp in Gurez Valley. “Locals noticed that the deer was trapped in the fencing and appeared to be injured, following which they alerted the Wildlife Department,” said an official, adding, “A rescue team rushed to the site and carefully extricated the animal from the barbed wire.” The deer had suffered minor injuries while attempting to free itself from the fence along the LoC, he said. After being freed, the animal was shifted to a veterinary facility in Dawar for treatment. Veterinary staff examined the deer and provided necessary medical care, the official said, adding that the injuries were not serious.
